Where are my words stored? On your phone. With an account they also sync between your devices.

How do I back up? Settings → Backup → Export all data to a file.

No sound? Install a voice for the language you learn: iPhone Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → English, Spanish or German.
